The Music Teachers of the Desert is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1968 for the purposes of:
- raising the standards of music education
- promoting the art of music locally, by means of educational activities
- providing means for teachers and students to participate in recitals, workshops, lectures, master classes, student evaluations competitions, scholarship opportunities, and other programs
- enabling local institutions and businesses to support local music education and activities.
Membership is open to anyone who wants to support and encourage music education and activities in the region: teachers, students, companies and institutions, as well as private persons (patrons)
